Kevin Plank started his company to provide a better option for the fabric used for sports gear, particularly the items that he and the other football players wore under their uniforms. His idea grew upon the need for more absorbency. Kevin went on the road with his samples to introduce his apparel line. He started with the University of Maryland team, and the response was positive. Kevin Plank was now in the apparel business, and the Under Armour name is well known across the country. The 1996 debut of Kevin’s ”The Shorty” was a huge success, His vision was to create a T-shirt that protects football players when they are soaked with sweat regardless of the outdoor temperature.
